Bahrain, Einride to develop digital freight systems

Bahrain and Sweden’s Einride Saga have signed a cooperation agreement to explore exploring the use of digital, electric and autonomous technologies to improve freight operations in the Kingdom. The cooperation will study the use of smart freight platforms, electric heavy trucks and charging networks to support more efficient and sustainable cargo movement.

The agreement focuses on evaluating advanced systems that can support more efficient and sustainable movement of goods across Bahrain. The two sides will study the potential use of Einride Saga, an AI-powered platform that analyses and manages transport networks in real time, along with connected electric heavy trucks and smart charging infrastructure.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Bahrain, said the agreement reflects Bahrain’s commitment to keeping pace with global developments in the transport and logistics sector by adopting innovative technologies that improve efficiency and sustainability. He said the initiative would further strengthen Bahrain’s position as a leading regional logistics hub.

The cooperation will also examine regulatory and operational requirements for autonomous freight vehicles, including safety and technical standards needed for future adoption.

The initiative comes as Bahrain works to strengthen its logistics sector and develop more technology-driven transport solutions. By exploring digital freight management and electric vehicle networks, the partnership could help improve freight efficiency, reduce emissions and support the development of smarter supply chains in the Kingdom.

The agreement was signed between Bahrain’s Transport and Telecommunications Ministry and Einride as part of efforts to evaluate new technologies for future freight operations.
