Bahrain plans to increase air freight flow to 1 MMT

Infrastructure is being developed for comprehensive and advanced global logistics centre at Bahrain International Airport (BIA), Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister Transportation and Telecommunications, said.

Also, a plan has been put into motion to put the Kingdom of Bahrain among the top 20 nations in logistics sector, increase flights to 70 destinations, and increase the flow of air freight to one MMT.

The construction work in the express air cargo area located west of the BIA’s passengers’ terminal has been completed, the Minister revealed. “The new 58,000 square metres area has a capacity of an estimated 1.3 MMT and consists of warehouses and aircraft parking,” he said.

“To deal with air freight movement and rapid e-commerce, we are working to set up a comprehensive and advanced logistics centre, including facilities to serve various cargo operators. “The first phase of express air cargo area comprising 25,000 square metres has been completed. It is equivalent to 59 per cent of the total area, he added.
