With the increasing complexity of global shipping networks, ensuring that goods move securely from one location to another is becoming more critical, Dr. Víctor Mateu, Acting Chief Researcher- Cryptography Research Center, TII, said in an interview. “Traceability is a big part of the business. We need to be able to trace each of the steps involved and be accountable when there is a missing part. Blockchain is a great technology because it ensures that every part of the transaction is covered. It guarantees it cannot be modified and pushes forward all the data to be able to share it with many entities. It also helps in decentralising all this data and moving forward the business model. I think blockchain might be a cornerstone in these cases where you want to have end-to-end security of the whole steps involved in moving the goods,” he added.
