Dammam Airports eye 600,000 tonnes of cargo

Dammam Airports has signed a design contract with WSP for the development of King Fahd International Airport in line with its approved master plan. The plan targets increasing air cargo capacity to more than 600,000 tonnes a year, while aircraft operational capacity is set to reach 77 movements per hour.

The higher cargo capacity is planned to support growing freight volumes and strengthen the airport’s role in connecting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region with international markets. Infrastructure and runway expansions will support the higher level of cargo and aircraft activity.

The project includes upgrades to airport facilities, infrastructure, runways and general aviation facilities. These works are expected to improve the airport’s ability to handle increased cargo traffic and support future logistics demand.

The development is part of Dammam Airports’ efforts under Saudi Arabia’s Aviation Program and Vision 2030. The master plan also provides for phased expansion of the airport’s wider infrastructure to meet future demand.
