DP World has completed US$400 million expansion project at Peru’s Port of Callao, increasing container handling capacity by 80 per cent and reinforcing Callao’s role as a vital trade gateway on South America’s west coast. The Bicentennial Pier expansion extends the pier from 650 to 1,050 metres, allowing Callao to handle three vessels or two mega-vessels simultaneously. This boosts the port’s annual capacity from 1.5 million TEUs to 2.7 million TEUs, with the container yard now spanning 40 hectares. “The pier project is a landmark achievement for us in Peru,” Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World, said. “Our investment underscores our commitment to the region’s economic growth and to making Callao a premier logistics hub,” he added. “The expansion enhances our capacity and operational efficiency.
