Dubai South has signed an agreement with Phoenix Aviation to develop a new airside facility at Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH), adding specialised aircraft maintenance and cargo conversion capacity to the Middle East’s aviation and logistics network.

The development will establish a centre of excellence for wide-body aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), cabin modifications, aircraft completion and cargo conversions. The cargo conversion component will support the repurposing of passenger aircraft for freight operations, contributing to capacity expansion across the air cargo sector.

Nabil Alkindi, Group CEO of Dubai South, commented, “This agreement advances our mandate to develop an integrated aviation ecosystem that attracts international investment and strengthens Dubai’s role in the global aerospace industry.”

Scheduled for completion in Q1 2029, the facility will comprise a 35,000-square-metre aircraft hangar, an 18,000-square-metre delivery centre and 15,000 square metres of workshops and stores. “Phoenix Aviation’s expansion reflects confidence in Dubai South’s long-term development plans and the offering at Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub,” he added.

The project will bring Phoenix Aviation’s total number of hangars at MBRAH to two, alongside its existing A380-compatible MRO facility. The additional infrastructure will strengthen Dubai South’s aviation ecosystem and expand the availability of specialised services for airlines and cargo operators.
