Ethiopian Airlines orders 10 Boeing freighters

Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement with Boeing for eight 777-8F and two 777F freighters, adding 10 aircraft to its cargo fleet. The deal will expand the airline’s freight capacity and support its growing cargo network.
The airline currently operates 18 freighters, including 12 Boeing 777Fs, two 767s and four 737-8Fs. Its dedicated cargo network covers more than 70 destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
The additional aircraft will give Ethiopian more capacity and flexibility to handle demand for air freight. The airline said the new freighters will also support supply chain links between Africa and international markets.
The 777-8F, which is being ordered by Ethiopian for the first time, can carry up to 118 tonnes of cargo. Boeing says the aircraft will offer improved fuel efficiency and lower operating costs compared with current freighters.
Mesfin Tasew, Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, said: “This agreement marks another significant milestone in strengthening Ethiopian Airlines’ cargo capabilities while supporting the continued expansion of our global network. The addition of the Boeing 777-8F Freighters and 777F Freighters will enhance our ability to serve customers around the world with greater payload capacity, operational flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability. As demand for cargo services continues to grow, these aircraft will play a vital role in facilitating global trade, strengthening supply chain connectivity, and further reinforcing Ethiopia’s position as a leading cargo gateway between Africa and international markets. It also marks our long term partnership with Boeing.”
