Growth of logistics sector in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia



The logistics sector of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been experiencing remarkable growth in recent years, according to a senior government official. Abdul Rahman Al-Askar, director, production unit, Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, said the current volume of investment in this sector is estimated to be SR2.1 billion (US$559 million).


This investment has been made possible through 208 logistical contracts and leased areas, spanning 3.2 million square meters. During a meeting with investors in the industrial sector in Riyadh, he highlighted the strategic plan for the logistics sector, which includes activating logistical platforms that have been approved by the Supreme Committee for Transport and Logistics Services.


The Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, also known as Modon, currently has 34 logistical platforms and 17 industrial and logistical cities. While some of these platforms have been activated, others are still under planning and development.
