Mammen Tharakan named TIACA's next Director General

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has appointed Mammen Tharakan as its next Director General. He will officially take over the role in August 2026, succeeding Glyn Hughes, who has led the association since 2021.

Tharakan was unanimously selected by the TIACA Executive Committee and Board of Directors following a global search. He brings more than 25 years of international experience in aviation and air cargo, with expertise spanning airports, airlines, ground handling, ecommerce, route development, infrastructure, tourism and investment attraction. During his career, he has held senior leadership positions at Air France-KLM, Edmonton International Airport and King Salman International Airport in Riyadh.

As Director General, Tharakan will lead TIACA's Secretariat and work closely with the Board to advance the association's vision of a safe, profitable and united global air cargo industry. He said his priorities include expanding TIACA's membership, increasing the value delivered to members and strengthening the association's global presence through greater industry collaboration.

The appointment marks the start of a planned leadership transition, with Hughes working alongside Tharakan before his retirement to ensure a smooth handover. During Hughes' tenure, TIACA expanded its global membership, introduced sustainability initiatives and industry research, strengthened member engagement and enhanced flagship events, including the Executive Summit and Air Cargo Forum, while improving the association's financial position and international influence.

Commenting on the transition, outgoing Director General Glyn Hughes said, "I am delighted to hand over the leadership of the Association to Mammen.
