MESA air cargo to US rises 25% year on year

Air cargo volumes from the Middle East and South Asia (MESA) remained stable week on week in the week to September 6, while traffic to the US was 25% higher than the same period last year, according to WorldACD. Cargo from India to the US rose 42%, while shipments from Bangladesh increased 21%.

The growth highlights continued demand for air cargo links between the region and key global markets. MESA capacity also increased 1% week on week, supporting cargo flows across the region.

Cargo from India to Europe also recorded a 1% weekly increase, adding to the region’s links with European markets. Rates from MESA to the US remained almost 60% higher than a year earlier, reflecting continued demand on the route.

Globally, air cargo traffic was 7% higher year on year in week 36, while average rates remained broadly stable at $3.00 per kg. Capacity declined 1% worldwide.

For the Middle East logistics sector, the continued year-on-year growth points to sustained demand for air freight services connecting the region with major trade markets. Stronger flows from India and Bangladesh also underline the importance of South Asian markets to the region’s air cargo network.

WorldACD reported that MESA rates to Europe were unchanged week on week, while rates to the US fell 2%.
