Qatar Airways Cargo has resumed freighter operations to Iraq, restarting capacity between Doha and Baghdad from May. The airline will introduce a weekly Boeing 777 freighter to Baghdad starting 7 May, marking a return of dedicated cargo services on the route. With this move, the carrier is bringing back more than 115 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity from Doha to Baghdad.
The restart is important for trade flows between Qatar and Iraq, especially for time-sensitive and high-volume shipments. Freighter aircraft provide more flexibility than passenger belly capacity, allowing larger and specialised cargo to move more reliably. This is expected to support sectors such as pharmaceuticals, perishables, and general cargo that depend on consistent air links.
The airline’s freighter network has now expanded to more than 60 destinations as of early May, indicating a broader recovery and strengthening of its cargo operations. Restoring Iraq in the network helps reconnect a key regional market that relies on air freight for imports and supply chain continuity.
