Qatar Airways to add 138 aircraft in five years

Qatar Airways plans to take delivery of 138 new aircraft over the next five years as it expands its global network and cargo operations. The fleet pipeline will include Airbus A350-1000s and Boeing 777-9s, while the airline will also receive 50 Airbus A321LR aircraft by the end of the year to serve secondary markets.

The fleet expansion will add capacity to Qatar Airways’ network and support the movement of cargo between established and emerging markets. The A321LR aircraft are expected to help the airline reach markets where operating larger aircraft may be less viable, creating additional connectivity for trade flows.

Qatar Airways CEO Hamad Ali Al Khater said the airline is entering a rapid growth phase centred on fleet modernisation and expansion.

The airline has also expanded its destination network from 60 to 160 since mid-June, following the resumption of international flights to Doha. The wider network and additional aircraft will provide more options for cargo movements through Hamad International Airport, strengthening Doha’s role as a global air cargo hub.

The airline’s cargo operations form part of its wider fleet expansion plans, alongside passenger services.
