SAL Logistics Services has become the first company in Saudi Arabia and the second in the MENA region to receive the IATA Security Management System (SeMS) Level 1 certification. The certification covers security management across its cargo handling and ground operations.

The certification is based on risk management and internationally recognised security practices. It can help strengthen security controls in cargo handling and ground operations, supporting safer and more consistent movement of air freight.

The certification also comes as Saudi Arabia expands its logistics and aviation sectors under Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. Stronger security systems can help cargo facilities manage operational risks as freight volumes and connections grow.

SAL received the certification at IATA headquarters in Geneva following a two-day programme that included certification reviews and discussions with IATA executives and industry specialists.

The programme covered security management systems, ground handling practices and developments in the Middle East and Europe.

Omar Hariri, Chief Executive Officer of SAL, said: "Security is the foundation of trusted cargo operations. Achieving the IATA Security Management System certification as the first company in Saudi Arabia reflects the advancement of SAL's security practices. It is a testament to the dedication of our teams. It reinforces our commitment to delivering world-class standards that safeguard our customers while enhancing operational excellence across Saudi Arabia's aviation and logistics sectors.”
