Dubai could soon see electric air taxis becoming part of its skyline and its evolving mobility and logistics network. Japan-based eVTOL maker SkyDrive has reached an agreement with AeroGulf Services on the potential purchase of 20 electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, with deliveries planned from 2028.

The agreement covers key commercial elements such as pricing and delivery timelines. Under the plan, 10 aircraft are expected in 2028, followed by another 10 in 2029. If completed, this would mark SkyDrive’s first detailed commercial deal with a customer outside Japan, highlighting the Middle East’s growing role in next-generation air mobility.

For AeroGulf, Dubai’s long-established helicopter operator, the move signals a step into zero-emission aviation that goes beyond tourism. Alongside passenger services, the aircraft could enable faster point-to-point logistics, support emergency services, and enhance connectivity across urban and offshore locations.

The development reflects a wider regional push as Gulf cities invest in advanced transport, sustainable aviation, and smarter logistics solutions. Dubai has positioned itself as a real-world testing ground for future mobility concepts.

SkyDrive plans to begin full commercial operations of its eVTOL aircraft by 2028, following successful demonstration flights in Japan. If timelines hold, Dubai could be among the first cities in the Middle East to integrate electric air mobility into both daily travel and logistics operations.
