The UAE has signed a trilateral agreement with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to support the development of a Central Asia–South Asia railway, creating a potential new route for moving goods between the two regions.

The railway project is aimed at improving rail connectivity and strengthening trade links across Central and South Asia. Better connections could give exporters and importers another route to move cargo, reduce reliance on existing transport routes and improve access to regional markets.

The agreement covers cooperation on railway connectivity, transport networks and trade corridors. It could also support wider regional integration by linking Central Asian production and markets more closely with South Asia.

The deal was signed by UAE Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Transport Zhanibek Taizhanov and Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister Maxkamov Ilxom.

Al Mazrouei said the project would strengthen transport links between the regions.

“Transport infrastructure and trade corridors play an important role in supporting economic development and regional connectivity,” he said.

The project adds to efforts to develop new trade routes across Central Asia, including links with the Middle Corridor and wider international markets.
