Uganda Airlines orders Boeing jets for cargo growth

Uganda Airlines has placed its first Boeing aircraft order, buying four 737-8 jets and four 787-9 Dreamliners as the carrier looks to expand its international operations and strengthen cargo connectivity. The new aircraft will support wider links across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

"This commitment with Boeing marks a defining step in Uganda Airlines' growth journey and in our broader ambition to position Entebbe as a strategic aviation hub for the region," said Ato Girma Wake, Uganda Airlines CEO. "The aircraft will strengthen our ability to connect Uganda more efficiently to regional, continental and international markets, while supporting trade, tourism, investment and cargo development."

The fleet expansion is expected to improve air connectivity from Entebbe and support Uganda’s efforts to develop the airport as a regional trade and logistics hub. The additional aircraft will increase belly cargo capacity on international routes and provide more options for moving goods across key trade lanes.

The 737-8 aircraft will support regional and medium-haul connectivity, while the 787-9 Dreamliners will operate on longer routes. Uganda Airlines currently connects Entebbe with markets across Africa and international destinations.

The airline has been focusing on building stronger cargo links, with improved air connectivity helping businesses access new markets and supporting the movement of goods across East Africa and global trade corridors. The order comes as Uganda Airlines also plans to add dedicated freighter capacity with two Boeing converted freighters to expand its cargo operations.
