Ground handler, dnata, has safely transported over 6,500 animals through its advanced Animal Care and Inspection Centre (ACIC) at Brussels Airport in 2023-24. The ACIC, a 2000m² facility, received IATA Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) in 2022 for its exceptional live animal handling processes. “At Brussels, we deliver best-in-class services, ensuring pet welfare during travel,” said Stef van Binst, Managing Director, dnata Belgium. The ACIC team meticulously reviews vaccination paperwork, completes IATA checklists, and performs security checks before departure. Dogs are walked in the export garden and cats provided with litter boxes, with vets on hand for any distress signs. dnata staff are trained in IATA’s Live Animals Regulations ferry humans and animals. They receive airside vehicle permits and crate-building training for larger animals. Compliance with Brussels Airport and the Federal Agency for Safety of the Food Chain regulations is rigorous, including a two-hour transit time limit between ACIC and aircraft.
