DP World moves 500,000 TEUs across GCC overland network

DP World has moved 500,000 TEUs across its GCC overland network since March, highlighting the growing role of road and rail links in keeping regional trade moving. The network is providing cargo owners and shipping lines with alternative routes as regional shipping patterns continue to change.

The milestone comes as businesses look for more flexible ways to move goods across the GCC. DP World’s network now supports around 3,000 truck movements a day, while the addition of 700 trucks has increased capacity for domestic and cross-border freight.

Ahmad Yousef Al-Hassan, CEO & MD, DP World GCC, said: “Moving half a million TEUs overland shows the scale, resilience and flexibility of our network beyond the terminal gates. Our extensive inland logistics capabilities give shipping lines and cargo owners more routing options and more certainty in how they move goods through the region, helping them adapt quickly when conditions change.”

The expanded inland network can help businesses respond more quickly when shipping routes are disrupted or schedules change. It also provides additional links between ports, logistics hubs and industrial areas across the region.

DP World has introduced bonded corridors connecting Oman and the UAE, while also using routes through Saudi Arabia to support regional cargo movement.

The company has also opened a 100,000-square-metre inland facility in Al Awir, Dubai. The site brings logistics services closer to customers in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates and has direct access to Emirates Road.

With future potential for rail connectivity through Etihad Rail, the expansion could further strengthen multimodal transport options in the UAE and support more efficient movement of goods across the GCC.
