Dubai has emerged as the world’s fifth-largest generator of new trade volume over the past five years, according to John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express. He stated, “It’s expected to hold the fourth or fifth position in the next five years as well. The Middle East is growing at a rate of 5–6%, outpacing the global average. Despite recent global disruptions, long-term trade forecasts for the Middle East remain unchanged, according to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and International Monetary Fund (IMF). While global trade growth has been revised down—from 3% to 2%, possibly hitting zero this year before rebounding—Middle East trade is projected to grow at around 5.1–5.2%. This strength is driven by a business-friendly environment, safety, robust logistics infrastructure, and efficient customs processes that minimise trade friction.”
