Electric trucks are now operating at Sohar Port’s container terminal, introducing a new logistics model focused on faster and cleaner cargo movement. Hutchison Ports Sohar has deployed 15 electric terminal trucks (eTTs) to handle container transfers within the yard, replacing part of the diesel-powered fleet.

For logistics operations, the shift mainly improves efficiency and turnaround time. The trucks support quick battery swapping in about five minutes, allowing near-continuous movement of containers without long charging breaks. This helps maintain steady cargo flow, especially during peak periods. With a range of around 150 km, the vehicles can handle full-day port operations without disruption.

The trucks are also designed to work with automated systems, reducing manual handling and improving coordination between yard equipment. This can help optimise container stacking, movement planning and overall terminal productivity.

Lower noise levels and zero on-site emissions also improve working conditions, which can support longer operational hours and reduce restrictions in busy terminals. The deployment is part of a broader plan to modernise logistics at Sohar Port, with further expansion of the electric fleet and supporting infrastructure expected.
