Emirates SkyCargo and LODD Autonomous have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore next-generation air cargo solutions using unmanned Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft. The partnership aims to test and validate autonomous cargo drones on Emirates SkyCargo’s global network, focusing on feasibility studies, regulatory approvals, and live demonstrations. The collaboration will run through 2027, giving Emirates SkyCargo insights to shape design and operational strategies for potential commercial deployment.
The agreement comes after LODD’s first successful test flight of its Hili aircraft, an unmanned hybrid heavy-lift drone capable of carrying up to 250 kilograms over distances of 700 km. Emirates SkyCargo may integrate Hili into its ground fleet to support faster and more flexible movement of goods across its dual airport hubs.
The collaboration highlights the growing role of autonomous technologies in logistics, offering the potential to cut delivery times, reduce operational costs, and enhance sustainability. By combining Emirates SkyCargo’s global air cargo expertise with LODD’s frontier drone technology, the partnership could transform regional and international cargo operations.
