LODD Autonomous has started the certification process for its Hili hybrid cargo aircraft with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The step moves the aircraft from testing to formal approval checks needed before it can enter commercial service. The program will review safety, design, flight tests and operational systems under regulator supervision.

The Hili is a hybrid electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft designed to carry up to 250 kg over distances of up to 700 km. It is being developed for cargo use such as medical supplies, industrial parts and other urgent shipments. The certification process is required to prove the aircraft meets airworthiness and safety rules set by the UAE aviation authority.

The move is important for the aviation and logistics sector as it supports the introduction of new autonomous cargo aircraft into regulated airspace. If approved, it could help improve delivery times, especially for remote locations, and reduce pressure on traditional transport systems.

Rashid Al Manai, CEO of LODD, said the start of certification marks a major milestone and shows progress from development to the path of commercial operations. He said the company is working closely with the GCAA to meet all safety requirements.
