Jeddah Airports Company is moving ahead with plans to expand cargo operations at King Abdulaziz International Airport through cooperation with Singapore-based Surbana Jurong. The airport operator is targeting air cargo handling capacity of 2.5 million tonnes by 2030 as Saudi Arabia pushes to strengthen its logistics and trade infrastructure.
The planned expansion is expected to improve cargo movement, support supply chain growth and strengthen Jeddah’s position as a regional logistics and transit hub connecting Asia, Africa and Europe. The development also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to increase trade connectivity and support growth in sectors such as e-commerce, manufacturing and re-exports.
Eng. Mazen bin Mohammed Johar, CEO, Jeddah Airports Company said the company is also working on a framework for joint project execution and wider long-term cooperation as Jeddah Airports Company expands infrastructure in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s logistics targets.
The cooperation will focus on infrastructure development, engineering and project management linked to future cargo and airport expansion projects. Both sides are also looking at programmes to train Saudi professionals in engineering, infrastructure and airport operations through technical mentorship and international project exposure.
