Jordan’s land border crossings recorded a rise in truck movement during the first five months of the year, with Jaber Customs Centre handling 178,340 Jordanian and foreign trucks in both directions, compared with 118,580 during the same period last year, according to the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies (AOCTC).
The increase in road freight activity shows the growing role of land transport in moving goods through Jordan and linking regional markets. Higher truck volumes across key crossings are supporting the movement of imports, exports and transit cargo between Jordan and neighbouring countries.
Omari Customs Centre, Jordan’s main land crossing with Saudi Arabia and Gulf markets, handled 207,507 trucks during the period, up from 188,580 a year earlier. Al Karama Customs Centre on the Iraqi border also recorded growth, with truck movement reaching 115,385 compared with 74,869 last year.
Deifallah Abu Aqouleh, President, AOCTC said the increase in truck traffic reflected stronger reliance on overland routes for regional cargo movement. He added that coordination between customs authorities, security agencies and freight companies helped maintain cargo flows through the border points.
