Jordan is set to develop the Aqaba Port Railway Project, which will connect the Port of Aqaba with key production areas through a 360-kilometre rail network. With a capacity to handle up to 16 million tonnes of cargo annually, the $2.3 billion project will support freight movement and strengthen Jordan’s role as a regional logistics corridor linking the Arabian Gulf with the Levant and global markets.
Transport and Labour Minister Nidal Qatamin said the railway will help reduce logistics costs and provide a more efficient transport link between production centres, ports and regional markets. The project will support cargo movement for sectors including mining, industry and agriculture while improving the flow of goods.
The railway is part of Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision and will form the foundation of a wider national rail network connecting different regions and neighbouring countries. Qatamin said the project will enhance supply chain efficiency and support smoother movement of goods through Jordan’s transport network.
