Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and Gulftainer have launched a new trade corridor linking Dammam in Saudi Arabia to Sharjah in the UAE. The corridor combines land and maritime transport but focuses on inland logistics, improving cargo movement, reducing transit times, and strengthening distribution across regional markets.
A key feature is the integration of inland hubs such as the Sajaa Dry Port, which allows faster and more efficient movement of goods beyond the ports. By connecting logistics hubs on both sides, the corridor enhances last-mile delivery, streamlines cargo handling, and improves coordination between transport networks.
The initiative also provides an alternative route that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, helping maintain trade continuity amid regional disruptions. Multimodal transport solutions like this reduce reliance on single routes, making supply chains more resilient and flexible.
The corridor is expected to increase reliability, speed, and efficiency in the movement of goods, supporting businesses in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and neighboring markets. Analysts say such inland-focused trade solutions will be increasingly important in the Middle East to ensure uninterrupted logistics and respond to geopolitical and economic pressures.
