Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) handled 5,841 tonnes of air cargo in May 2026, compared to 4,114 tonnes in April, a rise of 32.6%. The increase points to higher freight movement through Jordan’s main airport during the month.
This jump signifies increased movement of shipments through cargo terminals, which can reduce delays for importers and exporters when demand picks up. It also suggests airlines and freight operators had more capacity filled compared to the previous month.
The airport also recorded higher aircraft movements in May compared to April, which can support cargo operations by allowing more flights to carry goods in and out of the country. This can improve how quickly goods are moved through the system.
Nicolas Deviller, Chief Executive Officer of Airport International Group, said, “The recovery in aircraft movements recorded in May is an encouraging indicator of the resilience of Jordan’s aviation sector.”
For the logistics sector, the rise in cargo is important because QAIA is a key hub for Jordan’s air trade network. Changes in cargo volumes often reflect broader trends in imports, exports, and regional distribution through the airport.
