Cargo movement through the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) continued to grow in the first four months of the new truck entry and exit management system, with truck traffic increasing 23 per cent compared with the same period last year. According to data released by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), around 445,000 truck permits were completed between 1 March 1 and 30 June 2026, highlighting stronger freight activity through one of Jordan's key logistics gateways.
The increase in truck movements points to higher cargo volumes moving through Aqaba, supporting trade, transport and regional supply chains. Average daily truck traffic reached around 3,700 trips during the four-month period, compared with around 3,000 trips a day in 2025.
June recorded the highest monthly activity, with nearly 125,000 completed permits, up 20 per cent from around 105,000 permits in May. Completed permits totalled around 106,000 in March, 108,000 in April and 105,000 in May.
The average daily number of truck trips rose to around 4,200 in June, while the highest single-day volume reached 4,920 trips.
The truck entry and exit management project, operated by Maqta Ayla, is helping manage heavy vehicle movements as freight volumes increase, supporting more efficient cargo handling and smoother logistics operations across the Aqaba Special Economic Zone.
