Cargo trains for boosting logistics growth in GCC states

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Railway Project will link the KSA, Qatar, Kingdom of Bahrain, Kuwait, and the Sultanate of Oman with 2,200 km of railway track. Another advantage of GCC Rail is it allows the states to move cargo between key destinations at greater speeds with no emissions. This will mean the GCC states can trade along with lessening of national and regional carbon footprint. Reports in Qatar stated construction of the section linking Qatar and KSA would begin soon. This railway section is likely to be operational in 2025. Meanwhile, the KSA is planning a track linking Riyadh with Jeddah and Dammam known as the Saudi Land Bridge Project. With this project, a cargo train would be able to cross KSA in 18 hours, a journey that normally takes five days by sea.
