DHL Express starts direct Bahrain-Johannesburg service

DHL Express has started a new weekly freighter service between Bahrain and Johannesburg, using a DHL Express B767/F aircraft. The direct flight adds a new link between the Gulf and South Africa and increases cargo capacity through the DHL Johannesburg Hub.

The service is expected to support trade flows between the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa and other global markets. It will serve businesses across sectors including healthcare, technology, manufacturing and cross-border e-commerce, as companies expand their regional and international operations.

The additional connection can help businesses move goods more directly between the two markets, while providing access to the wider DHL network through Johannesburg. It also adds flexibility to supply chains as trade routes and sourcing patterns continue to change.

Anthony Beckley, Vice President of Operations and Aviation, DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, said: “While this first direct DHL flight between Bahrain and South Africa is a significant network milestone, its real value lies in the opportunities it creates for customers.”

The weekly service adds another air cargo option for businesses moving goods between the Gulf and southern Africa, supporting faster and more direct movement of shipments across the regions.
