DP World adds 35 electric tractors at Jeddah terminal

DP World has deployed 35 electric terminal tractors at the South Container Terminal (SCT) at Jeddah Islamic Port, increasing its terminal tractor fleet capacity by more than 20 percent. The new equipment will support faster container movement within the terminal and improve overall logistics operations.

The electric tractors will help move containers between different areas of the terminal more efficiently, improving yard management and supporting smoother cargo flows. The deployment is expected to enhance equipment availability, reduce operational delays and improve service reliability for logistics customers.

Mohammad Alshaikh, CEO, DP World KSA, said, “The addition of the tractors strengthens our operational resilience, increases equipment availability and represents an important milestone in transforming SCT into a future-ready, lower-carbon gateway for regional and global trade."

The new fleet is also expected to lower carbon emissions from terminal tractor operations by around 20 percent compared with existing equipment. The move supports the shift towards cleaner logistics operations while maintaining efficiency across cargo handling activities.

The deployment is part of DP World's US$800 million investment to transform the South Container Terminal with advanced infrastructure and technology. The terminal upgrade aims to strengthen cargo handling capacity and support Saudi Arabia’s growing logistics sector. With increasing trade activity in the region, investments in modern equipment and sustainable solutions are helping improve supply chain efficiency and strengthen the role of ports as key logistics hubs.
