DP World has started construction of a new freight corridor and multimodal logistics park in Pakistan, a project expected to improve cargo movement between the Middle East and South Asia. The project, located at Pipri near Karachi, is being developed with Pakistan Railways and the National Logistics Corporation (NLC).

The new corridor will shift container movement from road to rail, helping cargo move faster and more efficiently from Karachi’s ports to inland markets. This is expected to benefit Middle East trade flows, as DP World handles large cargo volumes moving between Gulf ports and Pakistan.

The first phase includes upgrading a 52-kilometre rail line linking Karachi Port with Pipri, along with the development of a logistics park that will combine rail, road and port operations in one location. The facility will handle warehousing, cargo consolidation and other logistics services. Phase one is expected to be completed within four months.

Once operational, containers arriving from the Middle East will be moved by rail to Pipri, reducing congestion at Karachi’s ports and city roads. The project is also expected to cut transit times, lower costs and reduce emissions.

The development highlights DP World’s growing role in strengthening regional supply chains and improving trade connectivity between the Middle East and key Asian markets.
