DP World’s war risk cargo insurance to protect trade

DP World has introduced a new cargo war risk insurance programme for companies moving goods through the Middle East, covering ocean, air, port storage and inland transport under a single policy. The solution is aimed at businesses facing rising insurance costs and coverage gaps across key trade routes such as the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea. The programme includes coverage of up to $400 million per shipment and automatic port storage cover for up to 14 days.
The new insurance model is designed to reduce disruption for cargo owners operating in conflict-affected or high-risk regions. Traditional cargo insurance often covers only one part of the journey, usually ocean transit, leaving goods uninsured during port handling, storage or inland transport. Industry sources have raised concerns in recent months about increasing war risk premiums and limited insurance availability linked to regional instability.
Yuvraj Narayan, Group CEO, DP World said, “Supply chains don’t stop at the port or the shoreline, and neither should insurance. For the first time, cargo owners can access a single policy that protects goods across the entire journey, even in high-risk environments, helping keep trade moving when it matters most.”
Under the new system, companies can use a single policy from the point cargo enters a war-risk zone until final delivery. The coverage includes physical loss or damage linked to conflict, civil unrest, seizure and derelict weapons. Claims approved under the programme will not carry a deductible.
