Marking an advancement in the UAE’s border security and trade safety infra, Dubai Customs has launched a Radiation Protection and Monitoring System (RPMS). His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director-General, Dubai Customs, said, “The integrated, real-time system represents one of the organisation’s most strategic security projects. It is a sophisticated protection and monitoring network managed from Dubai Customs’ Command and Control Center, aligning with local and international regulations.” The new system is designed to detect, monitor, and control the movement of radioactive and nuclear materials across all entry points — air, land, and sea, ensuring compliance with global safety standards. It safeguards customs personnel, the environment, and the community while preventing illicit trafficking of hazardous materials. Developed over two years in collaboration with multiple government and private partners, the system enhances Dubai’s readiness to handle potential radiological risks and strengthens its role as a key player in global trade safety. The initiative aligns with UAE government directives and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) standards, reinforcing Dubai Customs’ commitment to innovation and the protection of national assets and community well-being.
