ECS Group and TUI have launched the first Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) partnership between an airline and ECS, the General Sales & Service Agent (GSSA). ECS Group contributes 1 per cent SAF towards the incremental fuel burn for cargo on all TUI flights, while forwarders can opt to contribute 10 per cent SAF for their shipments. The collaboration began in August 2022, with ECS Group financing a 1 per cent SAF blend on all TUI flights. Freight forwarders can add to this effort by contributing to a 10 per cent SAF blend through a SAF surcharge, recorded under other charge due carrier. “Air cargo accounts for about 0.4 per cent of global CO2 emissions, like Germany’s total emissions. ECS Group’s 1 per cent SAF blend contribution on TUI flights marks the first-ever SAF partnership between a GSSA and an airline, and it will not be the last,” Adrien Thominet, Executive Chairman, ECS Group, said. “Sustainability is crucial for TUI. We have set 2030 emission reduction targets, approved by the Science Based Targets initiative,” Leen Vander Kuylen, Director, Supplier Management & Procurement, TUI Airline, said.
