Egypt has launched its first-of-its-kind river shipment to enhance agricultural logistics with Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO) and Al Dahra Agriculture transporting 750 tonnes of packed urea fertilizer from Damietta Port to Toshka via the Nile, said Raouf Tawfik, CEO, Al Dahra Agriculture, Egypt. Operated by the National Nile Company for River Transportation, the vessel Nile 5 will deliver fertilizer to support farming projects in Aswan before returning to Alexandria with export-bound produce creating a multimodal logistics loop. The initiative, coordinated by the Ministries of Petroleum, Industry and Transport, highlights the Nile’s potential as a safe, cost-effective freight corridor. It strengthens farm-to-market connectivity, reduces overland congestion and supports Egypt’s logistics diversification strategy.
