Egypt has signed an agreement to develop a dry port and logistics zone in Borg El Arab City, adding to a wider push across the Middle East to expand inland logistics infrastructure and strengthen regional trade links. The project is part of a national plan to build 33 dry ports and improve cargo movement across the country.

The dry port will sit within the Cairo–Alexandria logistics corridor, which links major industrial areas with ports and trade routes. Stronger rail and road connections in this corridor are expected to cut transport costs and reduce delivery times by moving cargo more directly between production centres and export points.

Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, Egypt, said the project’s strategic location in Borg El Arab City will support industrial activity and improve supply chain efficiency.

The facility is also aimed at easing pressure on crowded seaports by shifting part of cargo handling inland. This can help reduce delays in container clearance and improve the flow of imports and exports.

For businesses, faster movement between factories, ports and markets can improve supply chain reliability. Better connectivity also helps reduce dependence on road transport alone, which can be slower and more costly.

The project is expected to support industrial activity in Borg El Arab and improve logistics services in the region. It is also part of wider efforts to strengthen Egypt’s role as a regional trade and transit hub.
