Etihad Rail to launch solar freight terminal by 2025-end

Freight, transport, and cargo ops in the UAE are set for a sustainability boost as Etihad Rail announced solar-driven Ghuwaifat freight terminal by this year-end. Adhraa Almansoori, Director, Public Policy and Sustainability, said Etihad Rail estimates its operations will help reduce land transport emissions by 21 per cent or 8.2 million tonnes of CO2. The railways are one of the most sustainable modes of transport, supporting the UAE’s climate neutrality goals. Located on the Saudi border, the Ghuwaifat terminal is a key hub for cross-border trade. By integrating solar technology, it aims to set new benchmarks in eco-friendly cargo movement and sustainable infrastructure across the region, she added.
