The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) has released new guidance titled Logistics Security: Preventing Insider Threat, aimed at helping freight forwarders and logistics operators better understand and mitigate insider-related risks across global supply chains. Developed under the FIATA Advisory Body on Safety and Security (ABSS), the publication outlines how insider threats can emerge within increasingly complex and interconnected logistics environments. It provides a structured framework, including definitions, real-world scenarios, and risk indicators designed to raise awareness rather than assign blame. The guidance prioritises prevention, highlighting measures across the employee lifecycle such as management control systems, compliance frameworks, and tailored risk mitigation strategies. It also calls for continuous evaluation of security measures to remain effective amid evolving threats, supported by a practical implementation checklist.
“Insider threats are not a technical problem to be solved, but a management risk to be understood and controlled,” said Niels Beuck, Chair of ABSS, adding that the guide equips members with practical tools to proactively manage risks.
