Freighter arrives in DP World’s Punta Cana air cargo hub

DP World has officially launched operations at its new Air Cargo Logistics Hub in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with the arrival of the first freighter. This milestone signifies the start of activities at the Air Cargo Hub Punta Cana, a multimodal platform set up in October 2023. The inaugural flight, a Boeing 767F operated by Air Canada Cargo, has a capacity of 50 tonnes and will serve a weekly route connecting Toronto, Mexico, Ecuador, and Punta Cana. The freighter will transport fruits, vegetables, and medical devices. “The arrival of the aircraft and the initiation of air operations at our logistics centre enhance the Dominican Republic’s competitiveness and connectivity, solidifying its status as the largest trade and logistics hub in the Caribbean,” Manuel Martínez, CEO, DP World Dominicana, said. The hub’s location near Punta Cana Airport’s cargo terminal offers cost-effective solutions for goods from Latin America destined for markets in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

“This milestone is crucial for the logistics centre. Our strategic alliance with DP World Dominicana and Air Canada Cargo continues to promote the economic and social development of the Dominican Republic,” Frank Elías Rainieri, President and CEO of Grupo Puntacana, emphasized.
