The Transport General Authority (TGA) has granted Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) a licence to operate container trains at additional stations across the Kingdom. This move aims to strengthen logistics links between ports and cargo terminals and improve the flexibility of goods transport across regions and neighboring countries.

Container trains in Saudi Arabia currently move more than 2,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) daily. With the new licence, SAR can increase volumes, helping maintain stable supply chains and ensuring that goods reach local and Gulf markets efficiently.

The expansion is part of broader efforts to support the logistics sector and make the railway network more responsive to regional developments. It also emphasises safety and operational efficiency, which are key to reliable transportation.

By connecting more stations and increasing train capacity, the initiative helps businesses move goods faster and reduces pressure on road transport. It also strengthens Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional logistics hub by facilitating smoother trade flows within the Kingdom and with neighboring countries.
