Lufthansa Cargo to add SAF freight surcharge from 2025



Due to regulatory environmental requirements in its air freight surcharge, Lufthansa Cargo will add the rising costs of SAF in its freight operations w.e.f 1 January 2025. A mandatory SAF blending rate of initially 2 per cent will be applied from 2025 for departures from EU countries. “Countries outside the EU are also planning to introduce or have already introduced mandatory SAF blends. Singapore is requiring the airlines to add one per cent of SAF to flights departing from Changi Airport, beginning 2026. The target is three to five percent by 2030. the EU will require six percent, and the UK and Japan will require ten percent,” an official release from Lufthansa Cargo stated.
