The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) reported 8.09 per cent rise in cargo tonnage for May 2024, handling 27,630,736 tonnes compared to 25,563,861 tonnes in May 2023. This growth supports National Transport and Logistics Strategy’s objective to position the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) as a key global logistics hub. Exported containers rose by 13.6 per cent, reaching 255,297 TEUs from 224,720 TEUs in May 2023, while imported containers saw a 5.30 per cent increase, totaling 260,065 TEUs compared to 246,968 TEUs last year. General cargo volume hit 851,501 tonnes, solid bulk cargo was 4,747,754 tonnes, and liquid bulk cargo reached 15,443,431 tonnes. However, total handled containers fell by 10.09 per cent to 647,839 TEUs from 720,569 TEUs in May 2023. Maritime traffic decreased by 7.68 per cent to 986 ships. Car shipments declined by 19.45 per cent to 74,590 cars.
