MESA-US air cargo volumes rise 12%

Air cargo volumes from the Middle East and South Asia (MESA) region to the US rose 12% in week 37 compared with week 7, according to WorldACD Market Data. The increase was supported by stronger cargo flows from India and Bangladesh.

India-US volumes rose 14% over the period, while Bangladesh recorded a 58% increase. The growth points to stronger demand on key MESA-US trade lanes and provides more cargo opportunities for airlines and freight forwarders serving the US market.

South Asia also showed a recovery in air cargo capacity, which was 3% above its mid-February level. This gives shippers more available capacity for moving goods from the region to international markets.

Gulf air cargo capacity also increased 3% week on week in week 37. Although capacity remained below pre-conflict levels, the weekly rise indicates some improvement in available space.

The growth in MESA-US volumes, along with the recovery in South Asian capacity, supports cargo movement between the region and North American markets. It also gives cargo owners more options for planning shipments on these routes.
