Freight forwarders in the UAE will be required to file the Mandatory Pre-Loading Cargo Information (MPCI) from April 1. The filing must be submitted before cargo leaves the port of origin and aims to improve supply chain safety and security. MPCI gives authorities early visibility of shipments, including details such as shipper, consignee, commodity, and HS codes.

“This gives authorities the ability to run checks and follow up with forwarders or shipping lines if there are questions. While the process adds complexity, it is intended to strengthen the safety and security of cargo in the UAE,”  said Toby Edwarrds, Director, Trade Tech

Freight forwarders can manage filings themselves or use service providers like Trade Tech, which offers multiple solutions. These include a browser-based self-service system with training and support.

On the other hand, industry associations, such as the National Association of Freight and Logistics (NAFL), are helping forwarders prepare by providing guidance, training, and updates. These associations act as a bridge between regulators and forwarders, ensuring members understand and comply with the new requirements.

Forwarders are advised to have their MPCI filings ready and understand the submission process, as global attention on supply chain safety and security continues to increase. Proper compliance will help avoid delays and maintain smooth cargo movements.
