Mediterranean Shipping Company and MEDLOG have renewed their GDP (Good Distribution Practice) and FSM (Food Safety Management System) certifications from RINA, a body which checks if companies follow safety and quality rules. This will help improve safe handling of food and pharmaceutical cargo across the supply chain.
The development expands certified logistics beyond ocean freight to inland transport in Italy, allowing better control from origin to final delivery. This is important for industries that depend on strict handling conditions, especially pharma and perishable goods.
"We can now offer FSM and GDP protocols not only at sea, but also during inland moves," said Alfonso Masullo, Global ISO Compliance and Certification Manager at MSC.
GDP and FSM standards ensure that cargo is transported and stored under controlled conditions. GDP follows European regulations for pharmaceutical distribution, while FSM focuses on food safety. Temperature control during transport remains a key requirement to meet these standards.
Customers opting for these protocols get added monitoring, including 24/7 tracking and intervention if needed. This reduces the risk of damage or spoilage, especially for temperature-sensitive shipments.
