Melbourne Avalon Airport and the Australia Saudi Logistics Alliance (ASL Alliance) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving freight connectivity between Australia and Saudi Arabia and supporting the development of direct air cargo links between the two countries.
“As a key international gateway, Melbourne Avalon Airport is uniquely positioned to support direct air cargo services between the two countries,” Sam Jamsheedi, President and Chairman, Australian Saudi Business Forum.
The agreement is expected to help strengthen supply chain connections between Australian exporters and the Saudi market by bringing together stakeholders across the logistics sector, including airports, airlines, freight operators, importers and exporters. Improved air cargo connectivity could reduce transit times, improve market access and support the movement of goods between the two countries.
ASL Alliance is a not-for-profit industry committee established under the Australia Saudi Business Chambers to promote stronger freight and commercial ties between Australia and Saudi Arabia. The group works with industry and government stakeholders on initiatives related to logistics, trade and transport.
Under the partnership, Melbourne Avalon Airport will work with the Alliance to explore opportunities for expanding cargo services and improving trade links. The airport is being positioned as a potential gateway for direct freight operations between Australia and Saudi Arabia.
The move comes as trade and logistics links between Australia and Gulf countries continue to grow, creating demand for more efficient cargo routes and greater supply chain connectivity.
