Oman, Azerbaijan boost sea-land links for Eurasian trade

Oman and Azerbaijan are strengthening cooperation in transport and logistics, with a focus on connecting Oman’s maritime network with Azerbaijan’s land transport links along the Middle Corridor. The cooperation could improve cargo connections between the Gulf, Central Asia and Europe.

Oman’s Sohar, Duqm and Salalah ports provide access to the Gulf, Indian subcontinent and international markets, while Azerbaijan is a key transit point on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, linking Central Asia with Europe.

For logistics and supply chain operators, stronger links between the two networks could provide more options for moving cargo across regions. Combining sea, road and rail routes could also help businesses diversify transport routes and reduce reliance on individual corridors.

Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan said “the development of international transport corridors is one of Azerbaijan’s strategic priorities.”

Cooperation is expected to cover logistics services, customs procedures, digital transport systems and port management. These areas are important for reducing delays and improving the movement of goods across borders.

The two countries have also identified transport, logistics, trade and digital connectivity as areas for closer cooperation.

Azerbaijan has invested in its rail, road, port and logistics infrastructure, while Oman continues to develop Sohar, Duqm and Salalah as key maritime gateways. Closer coordination between these networks could strengthen trade flows between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
