Trade and logistics cooperation between Oman and Azerbaijan is expanding, with the two countries focusing on improving cargo movement and linking major ports and free zones such as Port of Baku, Alat Free Economic Zone, and SOHAR Port and Freezone to support smoother regional trade flows.

The cooperation is aimed at making shipping routes more efficient by reducing handling delays and improving coordination between port operators. This can help containers move faster between the Caspian region and the Gulf, where cargo often depends on multi-leg transport routes.

His Excellency Rashad Ismayilov, Ambassador of Muscat said both sides are actively working to deepen collaboration, particularly in developing joint economic initiatives and enhancing connectivity between key logistics hubs, including the Port of Baku and Alat Free Economic Zone with SOHAR Port and Freezone.

Stronger links between these hubs may also improve transshipment activity, allowing goods to be shifted more smoothly between sea routes without long waiting times. This is important for traders who rely on predictable schedules and lower logistics costs.

Both sides are also looking at ways to increase trade volumes using existing infrastructure instead of building new facilities. Better alignment between free zones could help exporters and importers access wider markets through established maritime gateways.
