Oman is strengthening its pharmaceutical sector with a new investment in Khazaen Economic City’s Pharma Cluster. Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Devices Corporation (GPIMC) will build a fully integrated human pharmaceutical manufacturing plant on a 10,000 square metre site, investing RO 15 million in Phase 1 of the project.

The plant will produce a wide range of medicines, including tablets, capsules, syrups, injectables, creams, and topical ointments. It will also handle specialised products such as certain antibiotic powders for injection. The facility includes integrated primary and secondary packaging and meets Ministry of Health standards, ensuring products are ready for safe distribution across Oman and the region.

Experts say the project is part of Oman’s strategy to improve pharmaceutical security and reduce reliance on imported medicines. Beyond manufacturing, the facility will strengthen supply chains with modern storage, warehousing, and cold-chain logistics, making it easier to move medicines efficiently to hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics.

Khazaen’s location near Muscat International Airport, Suwaiq Port, and major road networks adds to its logistical advantage, enabling faster national and regional distribution. With several other pharmaceutical and medical projects underway, the city is emerging as a hub for healthcare production, storage, and logistics in Oman.
